Lecturers and Language Assistants
The Lecturers' Programme for graduates of the humanities and cultural studies serves to support the teaching of the German language as well as Austrian literature and civilisation at universities abroad. It is funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and implemented by "Österreich-Kooperation" on the basis of funding agreements with university departments and academic institutions abroad. Most of the lecturers' positions are found at departments of German language and literature. Institutions of tertiary education with a focus on business, technology and linguistic specialisation are also supported by funding for lecturers.
Since lecturers teach abroad for several years, sustainable relations between Austria and the host countries are established, which makes the lecturers' positions important instruments of communication and dissemination for Austrian culture and science.
Participants in the Language Assistant Programme find an opportunity of acquiring linguistic and civilisational knowledge while gathering their first practical experience in teaching. Students, especially those preparing for the teaching profession who have passed their first degree examination, graduates doing their teaching internship and teachers up to the age of 30 may thus acquire an authentic view of what schools are like in other countries and obtain useful hints for their work in Austria.
