Education and Language

The strongest identification of a cultural area still occurs through language. The Austrian international cultural policy must therefore not disregard this aspect, but has to assume the responsibility for maintenance and propagation of the German language as well as to publicly advocate this. This suggests itself all the more, as culture and tradition of many countries, especially in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe, continue to recognise German as an international means of communication, to the political and economic advantage of that language area.
