MOVING SOUNDS

Moving Sounds 2011, which is devoted to the interaction of contemporary music and electronic performance, is showing in this context musicians who engage with both electronic and classical music and their limits, and who also redefine these limits. The multifarious aspects of sound take center stage of the festival. Works and pieces which oscillate between contemporary, electronic and avant-garde music will be presented. The program comprises three world premieres and the New York premiere of the new interpretation of Gustav Mahler’s Adagio of the Tenth Symphony. The performance by the Austrian Elektro Guzzi band, consisting of Bernhard Hammer, Jakob Schneidewind and Bernhard Breuer, promises to be another highlight of the festival. The renowned Austrian viol player and composer Eva Reiter will perform her unique pieces which explore the fine line between acoustic and electronic music.
The presentation of the new Reactable Mobile and the Original Reactable by co-inventor Martin Kaltenbrunner and New York Reactable player Peter Kim will be a further high point. The duo demonstrates the latest developments in the field of digital music effects and DJing. The Czechsplorations will take place at the Czech Center: Argento and fourbythree, a string ensemble from Columbia University, will explore new cross-border contemporary music trends based on the traditional cultural roots of central Europe.
The four-day music festival Moving Sounds 2011 is being organised by the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York in cooperation with the Argento New Music Project, the Music Information Center Austria (MICA) and the Czech Center in New York.
