Austrian Passport
End of validity of registration of children in their parents passports
The validity of registration of one or more children in the passport of one of their parents ends on 15.6.2012.
Starting from this date each child needs a valid passport for crossing the border to another country, or a valid Austrian identity card ( österreichischer Personalausweis), if permitted by the specific country to be visited .
A passport including a registration of a child stays valid until its date of expiry, but only for the holder of the passport and no longer for the registered children.
From the 30th of March 2009 Austrian biometric passports will include fingerprints. Fingerprints usually will be taken from both index fingers.
No fingerprints will be taken from children under 12.
More comprehensive information regarding biometric passports including fingerprints can be found in German language on following website http://www.bmi.gv.at/reisepass/
