Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research Karlheinz Töchterle visited Israel from 18 to 21 June 2011

Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research Karlheinz Töchterle paid an official working visit to Israel from 18 to 21 June 2011.
Minister Töchterle was accompanied by a delegation comprising members of his office and press representatives, the president of the Austrian Jewish community Ariel Muzicant, the president of the Institute of Science & Technology (IST) Austria Thomas Henzinger, Gerhard Riemer of the Federation of Austrian Industries, the designated rector of the Technical University of Vienna Sabine Seidler, and a group of four members from the Austrian Academy of Sciences headed by its president Helmut Denk. This visit to Israel was the first bilateral visit to a foreign country of the newly appointed Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research.
The three-day visit focused primarily on Israeli universities and research institutions, among them the renowned Weizmann Institute of Science, the Davidson Institute for Higher Education, the Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The latter has a partnership agreement with the University of Vienna and is the seat of the Center for Austrian Studies (CAS).
Meetings and talks with the Israeli Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Rabbi Daniel Hershkovitz (photo) and with the Minister of Education, Mr. Gideon Sa’ar were at the core of this working visit.
Furthermore Minister Töchterle met and exchanged opinions with Austrian Holocaust survivors and laid a wreath in Yad Vashem.
