Elections Information
Entitled to vote are Austrians from their 16th birthday on. No witness is necessary when casting the vote. The wish to vote by absentee ballot can be registered and will be valid for a maximum of 10 years.
The first precondition to participate in the election is the inscription on the voters' roll in your appropriate municipality in Austria. This is done through the so called “yellow form”: the application for inscription on the (disposition in the) voters' roll and/or Europe-voters' roll. The form is available here as well as at all Austrian representations. Please read the form as well as the guide carefully.
The inscription to the voters' roll can be done at any time. The application for an absentee ballot is possible as soon as the election is announced in the federal law gazette. For more information concerning the inscription, click here.
