Austrian Development Cooperation in South Africa
South Africa is a partner country of Austrian evelopment Cooperation in the priority region of Southern Africa.
The Austrian Development Cooperation is supporting district development in Limpopo and Eastern Cape province. The projects support the establishment of structures and capacity building respectively, definition of the co-operation, management, co-ordination and monitoring as well as empowerment of civil society. The activities of the Austrian development cooperation programme aim at poverty reduction at the level of provinces and municipalities.
Projects so far
Austria has dedicated about 50% of ODA available for South Africa to support for the government and civil society sector. In the years 2000 to 2004 this support amounted in total to Euro 2,996.387.-. Austria has supported human rights and good governance by supporting capacity building in view of decentralization. Decentralization continues to be a priority in Limpopo and the Eastern Cape.
