Weapons
British residents need a European Firearms Pass, listing the weapon(s), as well as a Permit for bringing it to Austria. Hunters and marksmen, however, only need the European Firearms Pass when traveling with a maximum of three weapons with ammunition. Additionally, an invitation to the shooting event (e.g. hunting or sporting event) has to be submitted. Exception: hand-guns carried by hunters.
A Permit can be issued:
- directly at the respective district administration office or the federal police head quarters of the travel destination or of the frontier-crossing point when being in transit,
- at the nearest consulate.
British residents relocating to Austria also have to procure a European Firearms Pass and a permit before they move to Austria . The permit can be obtained from the respective Federal Police Headquarter ("Bundespolizeidirektion") of the city they are moving to. Otherwise (if there is no federal police) it can be issued by the respective regional administrative authority ("Bezirkshauptmannschaft").
Attention: There is a general ban on the import of certain weapons (e.g. pump guns, knuckle-dusters).
