Currency
The unit of currency is the EURO which is divided into 100 cents. There is no limit on the amount of money that may be taken into Austria.
Can I still exchange my old Austrian Schillings?
Yes, old Austrian Bank Notes can be exchanged at our Central Bank, Oesterreichische Nationalbank.
However, please note that some notes have to be exchanged within a certain time limit (see below).

How can I exchange my old Austrian Schillings?
Notes can be sent to our Central Bank, Oesterreichische Nationalbank, in Vienna (registered/recorded post recommended) who can arrange for the equivalent Euro amount to be transferred into your account:

Please ensure that you include all your bank details, i.e. account name and number, sort code and your bank's address. Oesterreichische Nationalbank does not charge any transfer fees, however, it may be advisable to check with your own bank if there are any charges for transfers received from abroad.

Please note that the Central Bank's Representative Offices in London, Paris, Brussels, and New York are not able to exchange any old Austrian Schillings.

The BMK Department will advise you of the price and will send you the notes after payment has been received. Please note that no guarantee can be given that the notes will be new of in mint condition.
Old Austrian Schilling coins can only be purchased via specialist collector shops.
