Paul Lendvai, Book Launch "Inside Austria"
PRESENTING AUSTRIA INSIDE OUT
The political analyst and longtime journalist Paul Lendvai knows Austrian politics inside out. His latest book “Inside Austria” – a gripping, in-depth personal report on postwar Austria's economic and social success story – was launched at the Residence of the Austrian Ambassador HE Emil Brix on 27 May 2010. “Paul Lendvai has been an enlightening conscience in Austrian public life for decades. He is in contact with the main movers and shakers of the day (most notably the late Bruno Kreisky). An Austrian by choice, he is perhaps best placed to do this” said Brix. Lord Weidenfeld, also introducing, called Lendvai “a true central European” based on his biography between Budapest and Vienna.
The core theme of the book, says Paul Lendvai, is the Austrian model of compromise politics. He calls it “the most basic principle of democracy – now incidentally also coming to the UK”. The book is not merely historical, but runs right up until the present “Grand Coalition” Austrian government.
