Austrian Holocaust Survivor Emergency Assistance Programme
The recently created Austrian Holocaust Survivor Emergency Assistance Programme (AHSEAP) is designed to provide financial assistance to Austrian Holocaust survivors and refugees who require urgent medical attention or essential welfare services and who live on a low income.
The programme is endowed with money from two sources: a sum negotiated by the Claims Conference with two Austrian Ministries, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Finance, and the residual fonds of the Bank Austria Litigation in the United States. The allocation for the UK is GBP 1.2 million which will be paid out over the next two years. The programme will be administered by the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR) in the UK on behalf of an umbrella group of six Jewish Charities, at the request of the US-based Claims Conference.
