Visa Information
General information
A Schengen-visa entitles you to enter all Schengen member states (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden)and associated Switzerland, if not otherwise stated for one, two or multiple entries.
A visa is issued for a stay of maximum 6 month and are categorised as
- Airport transit visa (visa A) or
- Travel visa (Visa for short stay, visa C) or
- Long term visa (visa for long term stay, visa D).
The issue of such a visa is discretionary and depends on examination of each individual case, including purpose of visit and intention to return.
If you intend to visit one of the Schengen countries for business, as a tourist or for a personal/private visit, you must first obtain a Schengen visa, which is valid in all Schengen countries.
This normally enables you to visit any, several or all above mentioned countries and move freely in all of the Schengen countries during one trip within the validity of the visa.
A Schengen visa is not appropriate if you wish to remain in a Schengen member state for longer than 3 months or take up employment or establish a business or trade or profession.

The same rules and conditions as for Austrian Schengen visas apply!
Do I Need a Visa?
All holders of Travel Documents and Certificates of Identity (CID) do require a visa!
You ONLY need a visa if you are a national of one of the following countries:
Where to Apply
- If you are not resident in Malaysia you should normally apply to the Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence
- If you intend to visit only one Schengen country, apply to the Embassy or Consulate of that country
- If you intend to visit several of the Schengen countries, you must apply for a visa at the Embassy or Consulate of the country in which your main destination is situated (longest duration of stay)
- If you intend to visit several of the Schengen countries without having a main destination, you should apply for the visa at the Embassy or Consulate of the first Schengen country on your travel itinerary that requires you to have a visa or which is your first point of entry.
- Even if you do not need a visa for the Schengen country, which is your main destination or first point of entry, please note that you may require a visa for other Schengen countries.
You should then apply at the Embassy or Consulate of the first Schengen country, which does require you to have a visa.
Usually you must apply in person at the Embassy or Consulate during the opening hours to lodge your application. Requirements for a Schengen visa may vary slightly between the different Schengen missions.
Please check with the competent Embassy or Consulate for further details. Please note that only applications with all supporting documents will be accepted. In some cases further documents and guarantees may be required with your application.

New invitation procedure
Since 1st March 2007 it is possible to replace the legalized letter of obligation ("Verpflichtungserklärung") by a declaration at the competent aliens police office in Austria.
It is quicker because the data will electronically be transmitted to the Embassy and also cheaper because no legalization is necessary anymore.
For further information please contact the next aliens police office (Fremdenpolizei) in Austria.
