Culture
There is an active cultural exchange between Finland and Austria, which does not only focus on traditional aspects of culture. The aim of the cultural programme of the Austrian Embassy is to acquaint the Finnish public also with new and unknown aspects of Austrian culture, as it is laid down principles and aims of Austrian foreign cultural activities.
The Embassy has a cultural budget at its deposal to financially support cultural events. Larger projects need to be co-financed by private and public sponsors. Criteria for financial support are:
· Presentation of the Austrian contribution to contemporary culture.
· Presentation of contemporary artistic and scientific topics.
· Existence of an Austrian angle in the thematic
· Existence of interest of the local public as well as of local co-organizers.
· Preferential treatment of projects with innovative character.
Particular interest is dedicated to the promotion of the German language as an important tool for cultural dissemination. The Embassy supports the efforts of schools, universities or of the Finnland-Österreich-Verein, which every year arranges a German essay contest with Austrian topics in Finish schools.
