Culture and Science

The "talkative" island is especially associated with literature and theatre. The bilateral cultural relations are close but can still be improved. The interest in Austria is widely spread and is mainly connected to classical music and imperial splendour.

The cultural activities of the Embassy are manifold and cover all sectors such as exhibitions, dance, lectures, symposia, readings, movies and music events. Special focus is put on a continuing cooperation with establish Irish organizers, specially with universities.

Together with the Trinity College and the universities of Limerick and Cork the Embassy with the support of the Austrian Nationalbank annually invites well-known Austrian scientists to give the traditional Schroedinger-lecture. The annual Austrian History Lecture is organised together with the universities of Dublin, Galway, Cork, Limerick and Maynooth.

During the last couple of years also readings of Austrian writers have become - with the help of the four "Austrian lecturers" (based in Trinitiy College, and the universities of Limerick, Galway and Maynooth) - a well-established tradition througout the country as well as participations in important music, theatre and film events in whole Ireland.
