Klaras Kiste
On the initiative of the Austrian Embassy Dublin a working group of Irish German teachers and teachers of the Deutsche Schule St. Kilians Dublin prepared teaching material for the book "Klaras Kiste" by Rachel van Kooij.
Klara Meinert teachs 4th class. Her pupils like her very much. However Klara is seriously ill and for a short time everybody knows that she is going to die. At first the children are paralyzed with grief. But then the affection for the teacher prevails and the children start to deal with the death optimistically, cheerfully and in an unbiased way. While the adults can do nothing because of their own fear the children become active: They accompany their teacher until the end.
This project is aimed at students of German in Senior Cycle.
Rachel van Kooij will come to Ireland in September 2010 and March 2011. After working with the book and the teaching materials Irish students will have the opportunity to meet Rachel and to ask her questions about the book and being a writer.
