In co-operation with KulturKontakt Austria, the Austrian Federal Chancellery makes available 50 residencies in Austria (Vienna and Salzburg) for Non-Austrians for the year 2016 .
The residency is designed to offer an opportunity to familiarise oneself with the Austrian art scene and cultural environment and to make contact with Austrian artists. Residents are expected to complete a project during their stay.
Application deadline: 15. September 2015.
Morten Kjærum received High Austrian Decoration
On Monday, June 22nd 2015, the former Director of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency Vienna, Morten Kjærum, received the Grand Decoration of Honour in Gold with Star for Services to the Republic of Austria, out of the hands of Austrian Ambassador Peter Brezovszky.
The laudatio was held by Mogens Lykketoft, newly elected President of the United Nations General Assembly.
Ambassador Brezovszky: “Austrian Federal President Heinz Fischer has awarded this very high Austrian Decoration to Morten Kjærum in respect of Mr. Kjærum´s outstanding achievements for Human Rights in Europe and in the world. By making the EU Fundamental Rights Agency Vienna a strong and respected institution, he has also contributed to further strengthening Vienna as an international headquarters for 40 institutions and more than 6000 international civil servants.”
Since April 2015, Morten Kjærum has been the Director of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Lund, Sweden.
Sustainability Lecture by Dr. Kandeh Yumkella on "Sustainable Energy for All"
On May 26th Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Chief Executive for the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative, spoke on the UN initiative Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All), a multi-stakeholder initiative launched by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to transform the world’s energy systems.
The event was held upon the invitation of the University of Copenhagen - in collaboration with the Austrian Embassy in Copenhagen - and was organized by the Sustainability Science Centre.

Mogens Lykketoft, Speaker of the Danish Parliament, in Vienna
Friendly bilateral relations formed the predominant theme of the visit of Mogens Lykketoft, Speaker of the Danish Parliament and President-designate of the UN General Assembly, to the Austrian Nation Council President Doris Bures on April 28th.
Besides meeting Austrian Nation Council President Doris Bures, Lykketoft was also received by the Austrian Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer.
Visit of the Governor of the Federal Province of Upper Austria Mr. Josef Pühringer and Delegation in Denmark
The Governor of the Federal Province of Upper Austria Mr. Josef Pühringer visited Denmark with a delegation of the Upper Austrian federal state government and the healthcare sector. The three-day long mission was organized by the Austrian Embassy in Copenhagen in cooperation with the Austrian Trade Commission aimed at the exchange of information and views on good practice in the field of healthcare.The high-ranking delegation met, inter alia, the Chairman of the Capital Region Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, Copenhagen Mayor of Health and Care Ninna Thomsen, the Chairman of the Central Denmark Region Bent Hansen, the Mayor of Aarhus Jacob Bundsgaard, Member of the Danish Parliament Bertel Haarder, Mayor of Helsingør Benedikte Kiær, WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab, the rector of the University of Aarhus Brian Bech Nielsen, and the Chief Executive Officer at Aarhus University Hospital Gert Sørensen. Among others, they visited the University Hospital Skejby near Aarhus, the UN-City Copenhagen, and the Danish Industry Association with a meeting on Public Private Partnership in the healthcare sector.

Election of Doris Bures as the new President of the National Council
Doris Bures was elected the new President of the National Council, succeeding Barbara Prammer who has passed away on 2 August 2014.

Swearing-in of New Members of the Austrian Federal Government
On 1 September 2014, in the course of the government reshuffle due to the resignation of the Federal Minister of Finance, Michael Spindelegger, the new members of the Austrian Federal Government were sworn in by Federal President Heinz Fischer:
Reinhold Mitterlehner as the new Vice-Chancellor instead of Michael Spindelegger, Johann Georg Schelling as the new Federal Minister of Finance instead of Michael Spindelegger, Alois Stöger as the new Federal Minister for Transport, Innovation and Technology instead of Doris Bures, Sabine Oberhauser as the new Federal Minister for Health instead of Alois Stöger.
Furthermore, Sonja Stessl was sworn in as State Secretary in the Federal Chancellery and Harald Mahrer was sworn in as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy.

Sonning Prize: Film Director Michael Haneke in Copenhagen
The Austrian Film Director Michael Haneke made a guest apperance in Copenhagen receiving the Sonning Prize 2014 by the University of Copenhagen. On the evening after the award ceremony, the Austrian Ambassador Ernst-Peter Brezovszky hosted a dinner in honour of the award winner.

Child custody and visiting rights across EU borders
The European Commission has kicked of a Europe-wide awareness campaign providing targeted information to international families on cross-border parental child abduction and child custody and visiting rights. This campaign aims to improve the families' understanding of their rights and obligations, to raise awareness of what help and rules exist in case international families decide to separate, and to support an agreement in the best interest of the child.

Michael Haneke is awarded the Sonning prize 2014
The Austrian director Michael haneke is awarded the Sonning prize 2014 for outstanding contributions to European culture. At DKK 1 million it is the largest cultural award in Denmark.
The Embassy warmly congratulates on this award and is looking forward to the ceremonial on 18 June 2014 in the Ceremonial Hall at the University of Copenhagen.
