CLOSURE OF THE AUSTRIAN CONSULATE GENERAL IN CHICAGO
The Consulate General regrets to announce that it will shut down on November 30, 2013.
The following Austrian Representations in the US will take over all responsibilities in the Midwest:
Austrian Embassy in Washington for Kansas and Missouri
Austrian Consulate General Los Angeles for Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota
Austrian Consulate General New York for Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin
Details about which Austrian Representation will be in charge of which State will be announced in due course.
Austrians living in the Midwest are therefore asked to check that their documents are up-to-date over the next few months. We recommend that you take the opportunity to use the services offered by the Consulate General while we remain open.
The last applications for ordering birth / marriage certificates, changes to drivers licenses etc. will be accepted on August 31, 2013. The last applications for an Austrian Certificate of Good Conduct (criminal record), as well as any Austrian Pension and Social Security enquiries, will be accepted on October 15, 2013.
Austrian passports can be applied for at the Consulate General until September 1, 2013. However, applicants who are able to pick up their passport in person may apply until September 15, 2013.
Austrians wishing to retain their Austrian citizenship must apply by April 30, 2013 at the latest, due to lengthy processing times in Austria.
All applications received after the dates given above will be sent on to the responsible Austrian Representation in the U.S.

Please be assured that, despite the distance, the remaining Austrian Representations in the U.S. will do everything possible to continue to serve you to your complete satisfaction in the future.
