Foreign divorce decrees are generally recognized in Austria, validation from the Austrian authorities is only necessary on a case to case basis.

If necessary, this approval has to be applied for at the Austrian District Court (Bezirksgericht) where you had your last residence in Austria.

Otherwise the request is to be sent to the Austrian District Court Vienna (Bezirksgericht Innere Stadt Wien), Riemergasse 4, A-1010 Vienna.

You have to forward an application for recognition of a foreign divorce decree as well as the divorce decree, marriage certificate and proof of citizenship (Staatsbürgerschaftsnachweis). The documents are to be submitted in original or certified translation. Non-German documents have to be accompanied by a legal translation into German.
