Bilateral Relations between Austria and Australia
An estimated total of almost 50,000 persons of Austrian heritage (appr. 20.000 Austrian-born) live in Australia today with the main emigration waves having occured in 1938 and between 1947 and 1960. With more than 110,000 arrivals per year Austria ranks as one of the most popular Australian tourist destinations in Europe. About 17,000 Austrians visit Australia annually.

Bilateral Relations between Austria and New Zealand
As a consequence of two emigration waves - after 1938 as well as starting from 1953 (skilled worker) - about 1200 Austrian-born persons live in New Zealand. The most well-known Austrian in New Zealand was the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000).
Successful air traffic negotiations were held in 1998 on the initiative of New Zealand. However, no scheduled air traffic with Austrian or New Zealand air transport companies is intended at present. Since 2000 Austrian Airlines and Air New Zealand are cooperating in the "Star Aliance".
