Former Ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon to the Federal Republic of Austria Ishaya El- Khoury Receives High Austrian Decoration
In recognition of his contribution to the continuous and fruitful cooperation between Austria and Lebanon, the former Ambassador of Lebanon to Austria Mr. Ishaya el Khoury was presented with the Grand Decoration of Honor in Gold with Sash for Services to the Republic of Austria by the Austrian Ambassador to Lebanon Mrs. Ursula Fahringer on behalf of the Federal President of the Republic of Austria Dr. Heinz Fischer on November 3, 2015.
Ambassador Ishaya El-Khoury served 34 years as a diplomat of the Republic of Lebanon with assignments in Cairo, Bonn, Brussels, Brasília, and from 2007 until his retirement in 2015 as Ambassador of Lebanon to Austria, accredited to Slovenia, Croatia and Slovakia, and as Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna.

The United Nations are celebrating their 70th anniversary this year. Austria became a member of the United Nations on 14 December 1955, together with a group of several other States. Since then, Austria has been an active member of the United Nations and has contributed substantially to its work.
Moreover, Austria was a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for three times, lastly from 2009 to 2010.
In 1979, Vienna became one of the – by now – four Headquarters of the United Nations. The Vienna International Centre (VIC) is the seat of a number of different UN institutions. The UN seat Vienna has developed into an important place for dialogue as well as into a hub for energy and international security questions.
The Austrian Embassy is pleased to announce that the Austrian Federal Chancellery and Kulturkontakt Austria will organize the programme Artist-in-Residence 2016.
