EU Filmfestival October 30 - November 6, 2013
Austrian‘s contribution to this year’s European Filmfestival, October 30 – November 6, 2013 in Baku, “The Third Man” is considered one of the greatest films of all time. The screenplay for the 1949 British film noir, directed by Carol Reed, was written by Graham Greene.
The main character is an American writer (played by Joseph Cotton) who travels to Allied-occupied Vienna seeking his childhood friend, Harry Lime (played by Orson Welles), who has offered him a job, only to find himself investigating the mysterious death of Harry, drawing himself into the black market criminal scene of the shadowy postwar Vienna.
The musical score was composed and played by Anton Karas, till then an unknown wine bar zither performer.
Scenes were shot at the original locations at the Vienna canalization, the Vienna Central Cemetery and at various historical places in the district Inner City as well as at the amusement park “Wiener Prater”.
All about the film classic and Vienna after World War II you will find at the “Third Man Museum”.
