Development Cooperation in Ethiopia

The Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs provides embassies in developing countries with small budgets for supporting small scale projects each year for which local NGOs can apply. The aim is to improve the basic needs of the poor and most vulnerable population groups in a non-bureaucratic and efficient manner. All the funded projects are subject to specific guidelines laid down by the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, on the basis of which the finally funded projects are selected by the embassy. These guidelines set a main focus on poverty reduction, healthcare, environment and natural resources protection, education, peace building, as well as measures aimed to improve the social/economic position of women and children. The project’s positive impact on the local population should be clearly demonstrated.

Application:

Please send a request for sponsorship to the Austrian Embassy in Addis Ababa (Email: addis-abeba-ob(at)bmeia.gv.at). The project proposal should be well-developed while bearing in mind the above-mentioned thematic priorities for funding. The project proposal will then be forwarded to the Austrian Foreign Ministry for approval. Please note that the deadline for submitting project proposals ends by mid November each year. However, it is highly advisable to contact the Austrian embassy as early as possible. Once the project is selected, a funding contract will be signed between the NGO and the Austrian embassy in Addis Ababa.
