Austrian Passport
Austrian citizens living abroad permanently may also apply for an Austrian passport with the local authorities (city or county government) while in Austria.
Please call the Embassy to arrange for an appointment to apply for a new Austrian passport! This will spare long waiting times when applying.
!!! ATTENTION !!! Entries of added minors in parents' passports lose their validity as of 15.06.2012 !!! The passport, however, remains valid for the person it is issued for - until the mentioned end of validity (as printed on the passport). Added minors need their own passport as of this date.
A) Issuance of new passports:
Austrian passports are valid for ten years and cannot be renewed. It will take around four weeks before the new passport may be handed over to the applicant.
The following documents must be presented:
- Application form (in German only) - dated and signed twice (also on the first page right top)
- Affidavit (in German only) - completed and signed
- two recent passport picture (35 mm x 45 mm) see "Passbildkriterien"
- passport with UAE residence visa
- Birth Certificate
- Certificate of Citizenship (Attention: The "Verleihungsurkunde" for the Citizenship is not sufficient!!! You need to present the actual Certificate of Citizenship!!!)
- if applicable: Marriage Certificate
- if applicable: Divorce decree(s) of former marriage(s) (If the divorce decree was issued outside of Austria, a "certificate of divorce acknowledgment" issued by the Austrian Ministry of Justice or an Austrian District Court must be presented.)
- if applicable: Proof of academic degree
- if passport has been lost or stolen: proof that loss/theft has been reported to police
The consular fee is 70 Euro, to be paid in local currency only.
B) Changes in still valid passports:
Only the following changes are possible:
a) deleting entry of children (adding children to the passport of parents is no longer possible!)
The consular fee is 25 Euro, to be paid in local currency only.
A change of one's family name is not possible. In that case, you have to apply for a new passport.
The following documents are required:
- Application form for change in passport (in German only) - dated and signed
- Passport with UAE residence visa
- Birth Certificate
- Certificate of Citizenship
- if applicable: Marriage Certificate
- if applicable: Proof of academic degree
- if applicable: Birth Certificate of child/children
C) Please note the following regulations:
a) Children's Passport (only with Chip):
Children above 6 years of age have to come to the embassy. Children who are able to write have to sign the application on the first page right top. For those children who are not yet able to write the legal guardian has to fill in this space with the name in capital letters. Passports issued to minors are valid for:
- under the age of two: two years
- over the age of two but less than twelve years old: five years
- over twelve years of age: have to apply for a regular passport; FINGERPRINTS ARE ALSO TAKEN (in the embassy)
With immediate effect passports for children are only issued WITH CHIP!
The consular fee is 30 Euro to be paid in local currency only.
a) Second Passport:
