Entry into the Austrian voter registry and European voter registry
In order to be able to participate in elections from abroad, you must be registered in Austria in the General Voter Registry as well as in the European Voter Registry. This entry is possible at any time and is valid for a maximum of 10 years. After 10 years the entry is automatically deleted.
If you want to participate in Austrian elections and your main domicile is not in Austria, you should
- determine either at your Voter Registry Office in Austria whether you are registered in the voter registry and/or the European voter registry,
- or - if this is not the case - forward an application ("yellow form") to your Voter Registry Office in Austria. Requests for entries in the voter registry and the European voter registry are possible on the same form.
How to determine your Voter Registry Office is explained in points 4, 5 and 6 of the yellow form (see also "Instructions" for filling out the form). For reasons of time a direct filing of an application to the Voter Registry Office in Austria, ideally by fax or e-mail, is recommended. Contact details for all Austrian municipalities - as well as the appropriate forms – can be found on the election information website of the Federal Ministry for European and International affairs (see quicklink) or contact the Austrian Embassy or Consulate, which can also pass on such requests to Austria.
