'Kuma' – The Second Wife
Fatma lives with her husband and six children in Vienna, trying to preserve the traditional values and the social prestige of her family. When Ayse, a 19-year-old girl from the Turkish countryside, is chosen to be married to Fatma’s son, a special friendship evolves between the two women. But soon this relationship is put to the test as the family has to face a difficult stroke of fate.
Director Umut Dag's quiet drama tells the story of a village girl and her life as a second wife in Vienna, Austria.The film was nominated for best debut film at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival 2012 and won amongst others the Special Audience Prize at the Lecce Festival of European Cinema, 2012.
The film was screened in German language with English subtitles in Kathmandu as part of the EU Film Festival in Nepal „Celebrating Women“ in February 2014.
