Concerts on "Marimba Lumina" by Austrian percussionist Lukas Ligeti
Please join us for inspiring evenings of sound and rythm, when celebrated percussionist/composer Lukas Ligeti (Austria/NY, USA) plays the "Marimba Lumina" in solo concerts!
The "Marimba Lumina", an electronic percussion instrument of which only 5 exist worldwide, looks like a giant xylophone and is played with mallets. On his "Marimba Lumina" Lukas Ligeti creates music that is rythmic and melodic, drawing from a vast palette of influences ranging from electronica, world music, jazz and Europan classical music.
On his India tour, Lukas Ligeti will play concerts and hold workshops pursuant to the following schedule:

About the artist: Mr. Ligeti earned a degree in composition and percussion from the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, after which he worked at the Institute for computer music at Stanford University (California). For the past 15 years, Mr. Ligeti has been living and successfully making/teaching music in New York City. He has been composing for the leading contemporary music orchestras and ensembles in Europe and has been playing music at the intersection between jazz, contemporary and world music. For example, he has been playing solo concerts at the London Jazz Festival, at Merkin Hall and Whitney Museum in New York, at the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival etc.
Last year, he wrote a concert for the instrument “Marimba Lumina” and orchestra, which premiered at Carnegie Hall New York with the American Composers Orchestra and conductor Dennis Russell Davies. He has also composed for the most important (contemporary) Austrian orchestras and festivals such as Radio Symphonie Orchester Vienna, Wien Modern, Vienna Festival etc.
In addition to this oeuvre, Mr. Ligeti has been working extensively with world music and music traditions of other cultures, for example in Burkina Faso (Africa) and South Africa. More info: www.lukasligeti.com
