Concert of Gwyneth Wentink & Saskia Rao-de Haas on harp and cello

Please join us for a concert of Western and Indian classical music on harp and cello. Ms. Gwyneth Wentink will present her virtuosity on the Embassy’s own concert harp together with renowned Dutch-Indian cellist Ms. Saskia Rao-de Haas.
The programme will include works by Gabriel Fauré, Johann Sebastian Bach and Hidayat Inayat Khan. The artists will play additional works of Indian classical music which will be introduced by them accordingly.

About:
Gwyneth Wentink is a renowned harpist at home both in the worlds of Western and Indian classical music. Since 2005, she is playing concerts around India as a solo artist and in formations, for example with the Kirwani Quartet, the famous bansuri player Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, or tabla player Vijay Gathe. In Europe and North America, she has performed as a soloist with prestigious orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic, the National Orchestra of Belgium, or the New York Chamber Symphony. She has won the most prestigious international harp competition, the International Harp Contest in Israel, as the youngest ever participant and was therefore awarded the special Gulbenkian Prize. As the first ever solo harpist, she also won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York in 1999.
Saskia Rao-de Haas is a pioneer in the world of music for introducing her Indian cello to North Indian classical music. Critics and audiences have praised her for her artistic depth and technical virtuosity. Saskia studied cello at the Conservatory of Rotterdam, specializing in Indian classical music under Koustav Ray and Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia. She has performed all over India, including at prestigious festivals such as the Legends of India (New Delhi), Vasanta habbha (Bangalore), Haridas Sangeet Samelan (Lucknow), and around the world.
