An evening of comedies (short films):
Two films from the series "Cocl and Seff" (1920), the Austrian version of "Laurel and Hardy".
Longinus Länglich als Wunderknabe / Longinus Länglich as a boy-wonder (1921): For lack of money, Longinus Länglich puts himself out for adoption, imitating a well-behaved boy. The problem is, he is not only fully grown but really tall, and to make matters worse, he falls in love with his nanny.
Wiener Bilderbogen (1925): This animated short film presents a 1920s vision of future technological development (telecommunication, energy use) and their impact on people's lives.
Pierette's Bilderbuch / Pierette's Picture Book (1922): This short film deals with the love life of the girl Pierette, using an intriguing mix of animation and live cinema.
Amaranta (1921): This short film tells the love story of the woman's bust 'Amaranta', property of the greedy circus director Mister Plum, and the African Banjo player Gimbo, likewise a member of the circus.
Feature film "Café Elektric" (1928):
Director: Gustav Ucicky, with Marlene Dietrich, Willi Forst.
"Café Elektric" is the story of a girl from a respected family whose love for a dubious gentleman with ties to Vienna's underworld of the 1920s sets off a series of unfortunate events. It features to be Hollywood-star Marlene Dietrich and Willi Forst,a big European movie star of the time, in the lead roles. "Café Elektric" is not only one of the best-known Austrian silent films, but draws an accurate picture of European social norms of the inter-war period.
