Issues and Responsibilities
The principal responsibility of the Austrian Mission in Geneva is to maintain liaison between Austria and the various international organisations in Geneva. For this purpose, the team at the Permanent Mission comprises in addition to the Ambassador and his deputy a number of junior diplomats, several specialists from other Ministries and administrative staff.
In practical terms, Austrian diplomats in Geneva promote Austrian interests in the organisations, actively participate in the decision-making processes of the organisations and report on the activities of the organisations to the Austrian Federal Government.
The vast array of issues covered by the Mission reflects the diversity of the international organisations located in Geneva, comprising amongst others human rights, humanitarian affairs, disarmament, trade, and development, economic and labour affairs, health and environment. In this section, you will find further information on some of these subject areas.
