Lopatka: "Singapore's religious diversity offers opportunities for cooperation in the dialogue process"
State Secretary promotes closer cooperation in Vienna
Vienna, 25 March 2013 – "Singapore is our most important trading partner in Southeast Asia. In 2012, Austrian exports reached an all-time high at 369 million euros, which corresponds to an increase by 8.6 %. Relations in the field of science are also enjoying a dynamic development", State Secretary Reinhold Lopatka said after his meeting with Singapore's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Tan.
"We aim to intensify our partnership with Singapore in Vienna where numerous international organisations are located. We have offered cooperation in the framework of the International Anti-Corruption Academy, and I am convinced that Singapore with the many religions that are practised in this country and its multi-ethnic society could contribute its dialogue expertise to the King Abdullah Dialog Centre", Lopatka said.
Negotiations about a free trade agreement between the EU and Singapore were concluded in December 2012. "We expect that this agreement – which is one of the most comprehensive agreements ever negotiated by the EU – will trigger additional momentum for trade with Southeast Asia; Austrian companies are also going to profit from that", the State Secretary concluded.
