Waldner: Developing our traditionally good cooperation with Canada further
State Secretary Waldner meets Canadian State Secretary Diane Ablonczy
Vienna, 29 June 2012 – State Secretary Dr. Wolfgang Waldner is holding a working meeting with Canadian State Secretary Diane Ablonczy today. The main items on the meeting’s agenda are the traditionally excellent relations between Austria and Canada and cooperation between the two countries in human rights matters and disarmament at the United Nations.
Austria and Canada have always enjoyed a relationship of sound mutual trust. Both states cooperate closely at the United Nations in their fight for respect of human rights worldwide and for disarmament. “We are also aiming, however, to give new impetus to bilateral cooperation and our friendly relations and to develop new focus issues of cooperation to meet the current challenges we are faced with”, the Austrian State Secretary said. “Canada is well known for its successful immigration and integration policy and we can certainly benefit from the Canadian know-how in this field”, Waldner continued. He also said that visits of State Secretary Kurz and President Fischer have been planned for 2012.
According to Waldner, an increasing number of young Austrians are interested in working abroad during their holidays, and especially in Canada. “The growing interest in gaining experience abroad shows how open-minded, energetic and diligent our young Austrians are. We would like to support them and will create the necessary legal framework as soon as possible. We are planning to negotiate a new agreement for seasonal and holiday workers”, the State Secretary concluded.
