Spindelegger condemns bomb attack against UN office in Nigeria
Assault on international community of states
Vienna, 29 August 2011 – Vice-Chancellor and Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger was aghast at last week’s bomb attack on the UN headquarters in Abuja: “This shocking attack constitutes an assault on the international community of states. I condemn this act of violence in the harshest of terms,” said Spindelegger. The Foreign Minister expressed his deep sympathy for those close to the victims.
Spindelegger underlined the tireless personal commitment of all UN employees in the interests of international understanding, saying that their service was playing an increasingly important role “in a densely networked world. The bomb attack demonstrated once again how important the tasks of the United Nations are in aiming to ensure that all people can live in peace and freedom.”
