Spindelegger offers his condolences to victims of Chilean earthquake
No news of Austrian victims
Vienna, 1 March 2010 – “Our deep sympathy is directed to all the relatives of those who have lost their lives in the terrible catastrophe in Chile, the many injured and the people of Chile,” stated Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger in a letter addressed to his Chilean counterpart, Foreign Minister Mariano Fernández.
“Austria’s Foreign Ministry established a crisis management group as soon as the catastrophe became known. The Foreign Ministry’s citizens’ service, together with our embassy in Chile and the consulates of other EU member states in the region, are trying to establish contact with Austrians who might be affected by the earthquake, and provide any necessary support,” affirmed Spindelegger. Austria had also offered to dispatch - within the framework of the emergency aid programme - three disaster control experts as participants of an EU emergency team.
