Like-Minded Group on Targeted Sanctions Input Paper 2012
In 2012 Austria and Switzerland spearheaded an effort of the Like-Minded Group on Targeted Sanctions (Austria, Belgium, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland) to draft an input paper including recommendations to improve fair and clear procedures within the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) concerning Al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities and also within other Security Council sanctions regimes. The input paper was submitted to the Security Council and the Secretary-General in early November 2012. In its Resolution 2083 adopted on 17 December 2012 the Security Council took up several proposals from the group’s paper to strengthen the Office of the Ombudsperson established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1904 (2009) and to enhance fair and clear procedures in the Al-Qaida sanctions committee.
