Armourer's Restaurant is a unique family-run restaurant, specializing in traditional Austrian fare and entertainment. Your hosts, The Weissnar Family, are accomplished gourmets, talented musicians and jovial personalities - striving to deliver only the best that Austrian cuisine and "Gemütlichkeit" has to offer.
During the week, guests are welcomed to a cozy a la carte restaurant reminiscent of the age of the Austrian Empire. Seated in comfortable chairs at spacious tables, guests take pleasure in our attentive and elegant "Iron Service", light or hearty lunches and candlelit dinners to unobtrusive background melodies, while the soothing crackle of our fireplace, perfectly accompanied by steaming "Glühwein", fends off the winter’s chill. In addition to the main dining room and bar, our "Kaiser Stüberl" seats up to 30 guests amidst splendour of old Austria's diverse natural and cultural heritage. The sumptuous a la carte menu of traditional homely "Wirtshaus" origin is available as per our trading hours.
For “Beer-Fest Functions”, the main dining room is converted to accommodate long wooden tables and benches - facilitating seating for up to 140 guests - in anticipation of the our traditional Austrian / German "Beer Fest" festivities. Guests are treated to live music and entertainment provided by the resident band, "Wirtshausmusi" (Papsch, Rick & Geza playing the accordion, guitar and the "Knöpferlharmonika" - an accordion with an Austrian accent).
If the foot-stomping, hip-swaying Oompah & Rock 'n Roll tunes alone do not entice guests to "schunkel" on benches and dance on the tables, the rousing male cries of the local toast "Hop! Hop! Hopassa!"… echoed by the ladies’ "Tra-la-la" most certainly will.
During the festivities, Peter (master-craftsman & maker of arms) provides guests with a glimpse of the medieval past by plucking red-hot iron from a furnace and forging good-luck charms on the anvil. The clink of metal against metal is a unique accompaniment to the festive ambience and offers an experience unparalleled in Southern Africa. Steeped in mysticism, the charms are presented as a gift from the Armourers to guests celebrating special occasions such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries and engagements. A choice of two menus is available for these festivities: Menu One offers a wide-variety three-course meal consisting of starter, main & dessert course, whilst Menu Two is a set menu. Reservations / Bookings for these functions are essential!
Our impressive Schnaps, Beer and Wine menu includes local and imported beverages: Try the Windhoek, Bavaria, Peroni, Pilsner Urquell or Gilroy’s on tap. This restaurant is the ideal venue for private functions, corporate functions and Christmas parties.
